F-Secure Deepfake Detector
Check for deepfakes or AI-generated images and videos with our free tool
Why should you care if something is AI-generated?
What you see and hear may no longer be real – even when you know the person. From family emergency money requests to convincing business executives authorizing payments, deepfakes enable scammers to impersonate celebrities, family members, politicians, and business colleagues.
And deepfake fraud is exploding.
North America has seen growth of over 1700% in just one year, with other regions not far behind.* It’s a global trend, and no one’s off the hook.
Weaponized AI-generated content is already used in political elections and hybrid warfare, blurring what’s real and what is not. As technology advances, spotting fakes without AI detection tools becomes nearly impossible.

Frequently asked questions
It means that our free deepfake detector is ready to be used, but we are still improving the technology behind it.
A deepfake is a fake picture, video, or audio that looks or sounds real but is actually created by artificial intelligence (AI). The word deepfake
comes from deep learning
(a type of AI) and fake
(not real).
In simple terms:
Deepfakes use AI to make realistic fake content that can either change existing photos/videos or create completely new ones.
Unlike regular photo editing, deepfakes use advanced computer programs that learn how real images look and then try to copy that realness.
AI programs analyze thousands of real images to learn patterns, then use two main parts: one creates the fake content while another checks how realistic it looks. This process repeats until the fake looks convincingly real.
As this technology improves, deepfakes can be used to spread false information or trick people, making it harder to know what's real online. Many people already find it difficult to tell the difference between real content and AI–generated fakes. The F–Secure Deepfake Detector is a checker for AI–generated content and it helps spot fakes by finding visual clues and patterns that are hard for people to notice on their own.
Deepfakes are powerful tools for scammers because they can:
Impersonate celebrities or influencers on social media to promote fraudulent products or schemes
Appear in fake news articles to spread misinformation or promote financial scams
Simulate friends or family members in
emergency situations
requesting urgent money transfersCreate convincing profiles for romance scams, tricking victims into emotional relationships before requesting money
Mimic trusted authority figures like bosses or colleagues in emails requesting sensitive information or financial transactions
Support extortion schemes where victims are threatened with the release of fake compromising content unless they pay a ransom
F–Secure's Deepfake Detector helps you check if an image is AI–generated, protecting you from these increasingly sophisticated online threats.
The F‑Secure Deepfake Detector provides verdicts on whether an image or video is AI–generated, but certain factors can affect these results:
Compressed files may trigger a false positive, indicating a deepfake when the image or video is actually genuine
Screen captures from videos, especially still frames, might also receive a false positive verdict
Social media filters and effects are not classified as deepfakes, even though they alter the original image or video
This deepfake detection tool analyzes specific patterns and inconsistencies typically found in AI–generated images, but these technical limitations are important to keep in mind when reviewing the results. For best accuracy, try to use high–quality, uncompressed original images whenever possible.
We support the following formats: jpeg, png, webp, mp4, mov. Maximum size: 10 MB for images or 50 MB for videos.
